LLMS.txt

What LLMs.txt is

LLMs.txt is a single file that describes your store in a format AI systems can read and use. It helps AI assistants like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google Gemini understand your store’s products and content—so they can recommend and cite your store when people ask relevant shopping questions.

10x GEO (also listed as 10xGEO: llms.txt AISEO AEO GEO) generates and maintains this file for you.

Where the file is published

10x GEO publishes your file at the standard location on your store’s domain:

/.well-known/llms.txt

Example:

https://yourstore.com/.well-known/llms.txt

10x GEO writes this as a storefront file, which is why the app requests Storefront files access during installation.

What 10x GEO includes in your LLMs.txt

Your LLMs.txt is generated from the store data and content 10x GEO can access in Shopify. It’s designed to give AI systems structured, trustworthy information about what you sell and where to find it.

  • Products — titles, descriptions, and key details pulled from your catalog

  • Collections — collection names and what they contain

  • Blog posts and pages — so AI can cite your content when it answers shopper questions

  • Policies — such as shipping and refunds, when relevant to a query

  • Store structure — so AI understands how your store is organized

Keeping your Business profile accurate during Onboarding helps 10x GEO generate more relevant content outputs across the app (including LLMs.txt, Prompt Watch topics, and ideas in Content Plan/Content Sonic).

How LLMs.txt is generated and updated

10x GEO automatically generates and refreshes your LLMs.txt so it stays in sync with your store content.

  • Initial publish typically happens during Onboarding under Setup progress, where the app prepares your core AI search setup.

  • Ongoing refresh runs on a schedule so updates to products, collections, pages, and articles can be reflected in the file.

Refresh frequency depends on your plan (for example, every 1, 7, or 30 days). The exact cadence available to you depends on your current plan options (such as Basic, Lite, and Pro when available).

Check whether your LLMs.txt is live and in sync

In Shopify admin, go to Apps and open 10xGEO: llms.txt AISEO AEO GEO.

Open Dashboard and look for the status that indicates your LLMs.txt is generated/synced (this appears in your Dashboard status when available).

In a browser, open:

https://yourstore.com/.well-known/llms.txt

Replace yourstore.com with your store domain.

If the URL works but the contents look outdated, rely on the app’s Dashboard sync status first—your storefront or browser may cache older versions for a short period.

Why LLMs.txt matters for AI discovery

When someone asks an AI assistant a shopping question (for example, “best [product type] for [use case]” or “where can I buy [item]”), the AI looks for clear, structured sources that describe what a store sells and which pages are most relevant.

Your LLMs.txt gives AI systems a reliable map of:

  • what you sell,

  • how your catalog is organized, and

  • which content can be cited.

This increases the chance your store is recommended and referenced instead of missed.

If your LLMs.txt is missing or out of date

  • Open 10xGEO: llms.txt AISEO AEO GEO → Dashboard and confirm your LLMs.txt shows as generated/synced (when available in your Dashboard status).

  • If you haven’t finished setup, return to Onboarding and complete Setup progress (this is where LLMs.txt publishing is prepared).

  • Make sure you’re testing the correct domain (the same domain shoppers use to access your store).

  • Check Dashboard for the most recent sync/generated status.

  • Confirm recent catalog/content changes are published in Shopify (for example, product descriptions or blog posts you expect to appear).

  • Wait for the next scheduled refresh based on your plan’s cadence.

See the Troubleshoot section of these docs for common setup and sync issues. If available in your store, you can also use the in-app help widget to search docs and contact support.
